Scotland’s national team had a strong period between 1991 and 1993, building on their qualification for UEFA Euro 1992. Scotland national football team competed at Euro 1992 in Sweden, where they were eliminated in the group stage after a 3-0 win over the CIS and defeats to Germany and the Netherlands. Following the tournament, Scotland focused on qualifying for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, performing consistently in a group with Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Malta and Estonia. Despite strong results, Scotland finished third behind Italy and Switzerland and narrowly missed out on qualification.
