1999-2000 UEFA Cup: Round of 16
This shirt is worn during the second leg in the Round of 16 (4th round) against Atlético Madrid in the 1999-2000 UEFA Cup (current UEFA Europa League). The first leg was the away match in Madrid on 2 March 2000. The end score was 2-2. Olivier Dacourt scored both goals for Lens. On 9 March 2000, the second leg was played at Stade Félix-Bollaert in Lens. Lens won 4-2 by goals of Nouma (29′, 53′), Sakho (37′) and Brunel 71′.

Quarter- and semi-finals
Lens went through to the quarter-finals, where they met Celta Vigo. They drew 0-0 in Spain on 16 March and a week later (23 March) Lens won 2-1 at home. In the semi-finals Arsenal was Lens’ opponent. Unfortunately for Lens, Arsenal won 1-0 in England and 2-1 in France. What can you expect with players like Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry I guess… However, Arsenal did not win the UEFA Cup this year. Galatasaray won their first and only UEFA Cup in the club’s history. It is also until now (2024) the only Turkish club to win such a European competition.
