Description
Match worn or issued Scotland home shirt by an international that wore the number #8 in the international seasons 1994-1996. Multiple players wore the number 8 during these years: Paul McStay, Billy McKinlay, Scott Booth, Tosh McKinlay and Kevin Gallacher.
The shirt is most likely worn or issued for Tosh McKinlay, because he was the player who wore the number 8 in short sleeves during two matches in 1995 that are highlighted below.
In the period 1994-96, Scotland always started a match with the numbers 1-11, besides an international friendly against the USA in 1996. During the 1996 UEFA European Football Championship, the players wore a small number on the front and patches on the sleeve. Therefore, it is not from this tournament.
This shirt has all the features of a match shirt: correct player size felt number; first team player size XL (with player code 34); fully embroidered Scotland logo (which on the commercially available fanshop shirts was a stitched patch).
It is likely that this shirt was worn in at least one match. It was very common that the sportswear manufacturers only produced one shirt with long sleeves and one with short sleeves for the entire year. This changed around the year 2000.
Scotland played the following games in the 1994-1996 period in this home kit. The numbers marked in bold were the ones in where Scotland used short sleeves.
