Description
Extremely rare match worn or issued Sampdoria long-sleeved away shirt during the 1987-1988 season by the number 5 Pietro Vierchowod (in multiple matches?).
Pietro Vierchowod was the defender who almost always wore this number #5. The Italian came from AS Roma in 1983 and played for Sampdoria until 1995(!). Already in 1983 he wore the number 5 in the Serie A (see photo 10).
Has the number #5 stitched on the back using Ennerre’s classic zig-zag patterned stitching. The logo ‘NR’ is stitched on the right side of the chest, which are the two green letters surrounded by white on a black background. These are the initials of Nicola Raccuglia, a former football player of several Italian clubs, who started to design sportswear for Italian football teams. The club crest (sleeve) and shield (front) patches are sewn on the shirt. The sponsor Phonola is painted on the front in black.
Fanshop shirts from this period did NOT have the club crest on the sleeve!
Photos 11 and 12 show Sampdoria lineups in the 1987-88 season. Photo 13 shows Vierchowod after his goal versus Verona wearing the number 5 in Sampdoria’s home kit.
It is most likely that this shirt was worn in at least one match, because it was very common in the 1980s that the sportswear manufacturers only produced one shirt with long sleeves and one with short sleeves for the entire season. This changed around the 1990s.
The away shirt that Sampdoria wore throughout the 1980s (1982-1988) with Ennerre as the brand and Phonola as the sponsor looked very similar. Here are the differences from season to season:
1982-1983:
Small Phonola sponsor in the middle of the shirt (the only season in which the Phonola sponsor was this small as the shirt available here).
1983-1984:
Slightly larger Phonola sponsor.
1984-1985:
The same as the previous season 1983-84.
1985-1986:
Sampdoria won the Coppa Italia in the end of the 1984-1985 season and therefore got the Coccarda sewn on the chest (which represents that the team won the Coppa Italia in the previous season).
1986-1987:
Larger Phonola sponsor with the first letter P (almost) touching the vertical colored lines. This shirt is also available. Click here to check this beauty out.
1987-1988:
The shield has significantly moved downwards on the shirt, which was not the case in the previous seasons. The P of Phonola is placed between the vertical colored lines.
Years: 1987-1988
Size: Large (fits slim as usual in that time)
Condition: Very good
Brand: Ennerre
Sponsor: Phonola
