Match worn or issued Real Madrid home shirt by the club’s number 9 in the season 1990-91 or 1991-92. This number #9 was worn by Robert Prosinečki, Fernando Hierro, Sebastián Losada but most frequently by the club legend Hugo Sanchez.

Hugo Sánchez Márquez is a former football player who is seen as one of the greatest Mexican football players of all time. In any case, he was a true goalscorer. Sánchez played for the youth academy of Club Universidad Nacional (UNAM), located in Mexico City where he was born and raised. He then became part of the firs team in the period 1976–1982. In this period he was loaned out to San Diego Sockers (1980-1981) and Atlético Madrid (1981-1982) before making the definite move to Atléti.

After three seasons Hugo Sánchez joined city rivals Real Madrid. In this period at Real (1985-1992), Hugo Sánchez was the one who played (most of) the league and international matches with number #9 (see the last photos of some of the lineups). In the years 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1990 he was the top goal scorer in the La Liga, Spain. The striker finished off his career in the summer of 1997 at Mexican football club Atlético Celaya, playing together with former Real Madrid teammates Butragueño and Míchel.

In the period 1990-1992, Real Madrid won one price: the Supercopa de España in the season 1990-91. The 1990–1992 period was a lively and emotional chapter for Real Madrid, as the club fought to stay at the top of Spanish football during a time of big changes. The team still had famous names like Emilio Butragueño, Michel, Manolo Sanchís, and Fernando Hierro, who carried the spirit of “La Quinta del Buitre.” Real Madrid competed strongly in La Liga and Europe, showing attacking football and real determination, even while dealing with coaching changes and growing pressure from rivals.

The shirt has all the characteristics of a match shirt:

  • Painted Otaysa sponsor logo
  • Painted number 9
  • Made in Poland instead of E.C.C.

The shirt comes from a person who got it from someone inside Real Madrid in the early 1990s.

In this period, shirts were often used in multiple competition matches by whoever started with that number (so often also by multiple players). It is almost certain that it was worn as reserve competition shirts were only very rarely made. Shop this vintage Real Madrid shirt here!
