799.99

Match worn or issued Real Madrid home shirt by the club’s number 9, which was Hugo Sánchez in most or all of the matches this 1988-1989 season.

Hugo Sánchez Márquez is a former football player who is seen as one of the greatest Mexican football players of all time. In any case, he was a true goalscorer. Sánchez played for the youth academy of Club Universidad Nacional (UNAM), located in Mexico City where he was born and raised. He then became part of the firs team in the period 1976–1982. In this period he was loaned out to San Diego Sockers (1980-1981) and Atlético Madrid (1981-1982) before making the definite move to Atléti.

After three seasons Hugo Sánchez joined city rivals Real Madrid. In this period at Real (1985-1992), Hugo Sánchez was the one who played (most of) the league and international matches with number #9 (see the last photos of some of the lineups). In the years 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1990 he was the top goal scorer in the La Liga, Spain. The striker finished off his career in the summer of 1997 at Mexican football club Atlético Celaya, playing together with former Real Madrid teammates Butragueño and Míchel.

In this 1988-89 season, Real Madrid won the La Liga (Spanish league), Copa Del Rey (cup) and Supercopa.

The shirt has all the characteristics of a match shirt: painted Parmalat sponsor logo and number 9. Shirts with sponsor were not commercially available.

In this period, shirts were often used in multiple competition matches by whoever started with that number (so often also by multiple players). It is almost certain that it was worn as reserve competition shirts were only very rarely made.
