Match worn or issued Parma home shirt in the season 1998-1999 by the club’s number 16 Saliou Lassissi. The Serie A patch is present on the right sleeve. The Ivorian player was only active for Parma in the first two games of the season, on 12 September at home against Vicenza and the second game on 20 September 1998 against Venezia (away). Lassissi was a substitute player in both matches, and played in the final minutes of the second match, against Venezia. Both these matches ended 0-0.
The 1998-99 season was one of the most successful in Parma’s history, as they won both the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia under coach Alberto Malesani. With key players such as Gianluigi Buffon, Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro, and Hernán Crespo, Parma finished 4th in Serie A, securing a Champions League spot. Saliou Lassissi, a powerful Ivorian defender, joined Parma in 1998 from Rennes but struggled for playing time due to the club’s strong defensive lineup. Known for his physicality and versatility, he later had spells at clubs like Fiorentina and Roma but never fully established himself as a top-tier defender.
This shirt has all the characteristics of a match shirt: the correct player size name and number screen printed on the back; correct first team player size XL, but above all (1) the taped seam above the neck labels with “Lotto” texts in black font and (2) the size label underneath the Lotto x Parma brand label in the neck. These last two characteristics are only seen at match shirts, not in commercially available fanshop shirts.
It is highly likely that this shirt was worn by the player in the match against Venezia, when he made his debut for Parma.
