The 1998–2000 period was one of the strongest eras in the history of the Norway national football team. Under coaches Egil Olsen and later Nils Johan Semb, Norway reached the round of 16 at the 1998 FIFA World Cup after a famous 2–1 victory over Brazil in the group stage. They also qualified for UEFA Euro 2000, their first-ever European Championship, although they were eliminated in the group stage. Key players during this period included Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Tore André Flo and Henning Berg.
