Description
Very rare match worn or issued long-sleeved Inter Milan/Internazionale home shirt in the 1985-1986 season by number #9 Alessandro Altobelli.
Alessandro Altobelli is a former Italian striker who was exclusively active in Italy in his footballing career. In his senior career, he was active for Latina (1973-1974), Brescia (1974–1977), Inter Milan (1977-1988), and Juventus (1988-1989). He returned to Brescia in 1989 to finish off his career after one season in 1990. Alessandro Altobelli was Inter’s top scorer in the 1985-86 season with 19 goals in all competitions. He is currently, as of 2022, still the all-time top scorer in the Coppa Italia (domestic cup) with 56 goals.
In the 1985-86 season, Internazionale finished only 6th in the Serie A, and got knocked out of the Coppa Italia in the quarter-finals against AS Roma and the UEFA Cup in the semi-finals against Real Madrid. It is the last season as Mec Sport as the sportswear manufacturer for Inter.
The shirt sold here is similar to the one worn during the previous seasons 1983-84 and 1984-85, but differs in the front of the collar: it is round in the period 1983-1985 but in 1985-86 it is folded back below the throat, leaving a triangular opening between.
This shirt has all the characteristics of a match shirt: correct player size 5; correct player size and style number in felt material which is professionally heat-pressed on the back (see photo 9).
In the 80s, shirts were often used in multiple competition matches by whoever started with that number (so often also by multiple players). It is almost certain that it was worn, as reserve competition shirts were only very rarely made.
