Description
Match worn or issued Juventus home shirt by Edgar Davids (number 26) in the Champions League season 2002-2003. The Champions League patch is present on the right sleeve.
Edgar Davids started his youth career in Amsterdam at Ajax. He played for the first team in the period 1991-1996, and won the Champions League in 1995. He then moved to AC Milan with Michael Reiziger. After two unsuccessful seasons at AC Milan where Davids also suffered a broken tibia-fibula he moved to Turin. He had over 150 appearances for Juventus, which was more than any other club he played for (FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Barnet, and of course Ajax). Davids was known for wearing protective glasses following surgery in his right eye caused by glaucoma.
In this 2002-03 season, Juventus (1) finished 1st in the Serie A, (2) won the Supercoppa Italiana, (3) lost to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League Final after penalties, and (4) stranded in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. Davids played 15 of the 17 matches in the Champions League (see matches below). The chances that this shirt was worn are very very high. In the Serie A, the Fastweb sponsor was present on Juventus’ kits. In the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia, Tamoil sponsored their kits and the Serie A league patch was present on the right sleeve.
The shirt has all the characteristics of a match shirt: correct player size number/name set (plastic material); the missing “Lotto official garment” patch in the bottom left of the front of the shirt (which is present on official replica store shirts); there are two neck labels (these are absent on commercially available shirts – here the size is screen printed on the neck). Specific for Juventus’ Champions League match shirts from this season was that the neck labels were attached to a white seam instead of a black seam with Lotto logos on it.
