Alessandro Del Piero is a true Juventus club legend. He played over 700(!) matches for the club from Turin (Torino), being a record for the most appearances for the club. He is seen as one of the greatest Italian footballers of all time and one of the best of his generation in general.
In this 2000-01 season, Juventus finished 2nd in the Serie A behind AS Roma. They stranded in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League (fourth place). Brescia beat Juventus on aggregate in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.
The Del Piero shirt sold here has the exact specifications of the one worn in the home match against Brescia in the Coppa Italia (see photos 11 and 12). In the first leg, away in Brescia, Juventus’ shirt sponsor was Sportal.com instead of Tele+ (see last photo). In the second leg in Turin, Tele+ was the only sponsor shown on the shirt. Del Piero played both matches against Brescia in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia. The Lega Calcio patch (the governing body that ran the two highest football divisions in Italy, Serie A and Serie B) was worn in both the Serie A and Coppa Italia. In the Serie A, the Lotto logo on the right side of the chest was replaced by the new second sponsor Ciaoweb on Juventus’ kits. In the Coppa Italia, this Lotto logo was present, together with the Tele+ sponsor and the Serie A league patch (on the right sleeve). Note: in pre-season friendlies the league patch was not present on the sleeve.
The shirt has all the characteristics of a match shirt: correct player size number/name set (plastic material); the missing “Lotto official garment” patch in the bottom left of the front of the shirt (which is present on official replica store shirts).
It is very likely that this shirt was worn during the match against Brescia, since reserve shirts were not yet common to use in ‘normal’ cup and league matches.
