Description
Match worn or issued Fiorentina home shirt during the 1991-1992 season by the club’s number 15. This number was worn by a player that came of the bench, as the numbers 1 to 11 were used for starting XI players. Numbers 15 and 16 were primarily worn by attackers. Gabriel Batistuta, Stefano Borgonovo, Giuseppe Iachini, Alberto Malusci, Pietro Maiellaro, Iomar Mazinho, Vicenzo Matrone, Ramon Aiana, Antonio Dell’Oglio wore the number 15.
The number 15 was worn by multiple players and most likely this shirt was worn by at least one player in at least one match. It was very common that the sportswear manufacturers only produced a couple of shirts with long sleeves and a couple with short sleeves for the entire season. This changed around the year 2000.
Fiorentina’s 1991-92 season in Serie A was a turbulent one, marked by inconsistency and managerial changes. Led by Brazilian forward Gabriel Batistuta in his debut season, the team struggled despite his goal-scoring efforts. The season started under coach Sebastião Lazaroni, but poor results led to his dismissal, with Luigi Radice taking over. Fiorentina finished 12th in the league, narrowly avoiding relegation. Despite their struggles, Batistuta’s emergence as a top striker was a bright spot, setting the foundation for his legendary status at the club in the years to come.
