Former professional Spanish football player De la Peña was a Barcelona youth player and made his first team debut under the supervision of manager Johan Cruijff. The central midfielder played for Barcelona B in the period 1993-1995 and for Barcelona A between 1995 and 1998, before leaving to Lazio.
In this 1997-98 season, de la Peña played 17 matches in the La Liga. FC Barca won the league and also the Copa del Rey. De la Peña played together with stars Giovanni, Reiziger, Bogarde, Luis Enrique. The trainer was Louis van Gaal.
