Description
Very rare match worn or issued Bayer 04 Leverkusen long-sleeved home shirt by a number 12 during one of the seasons between 1979 and 1982 (1979-1980, 1980-1981 or 1981-1982).
In 1977-78 Bayer 04 used a round white crew neck. In the next season, 1978-79, Bayer 04 Leverkusen played with a white collar and a V-shaped white neck. This was the season that Leverkusen finished first in the 2. Bundesliga and got promoted to the top tier, the Bundesliga, for the first time in the club’s history. On the team photo of the 1982-83 season, this specific shirt also appeared, while they used a similar shirt with vertical thin white stripes during the season.
This shirt has never been commercially available. It has the correct player size and style number on the back, together with the other logos that are gummed on the shirt.
It is most likely that this shirt was worn in at least one match, because it was very common in the 1970s and 1980s that the sportswear manufacturers only produced one shirt with long sleeves and one with short sleeves for the entire season. This changed in the 1990s for most club teams.
