The 1997-98 season was another strong campaign for AS Monaco, following their Ligue 1 title win the previous year. Under coach Jean Tigana, Monaco remained competitive in the league, finishing third in Ligue 1 and securing a spot in European competition. However, their most impressive run came in the UEFA Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals, eliminating Manchester United along the way before falling to Juventus.
French football player Stéphane Carnot was a midfielder known for his vision and technical ability. While he was not always a guaranteed starter in Monaco’s talented squad, he played an important role in their midfield rotation. Carnot had joined Monaco from Guingamp in 1997 and played only one season in Monaco before leaving to AJ Auxerre.
