Description
Match issued Ajax long-sleeved home shirt by the club’s number 6 Ronald de Boer in the season 1997-1998. Ronald recently signed the shirt, together with his brother (see here).
The 1997-98 season was a strong one for AFC Ajax, as they reclaimed the Eredivisie title, finishing first under manager Morten Olsen. The team, featuring a mix of experienced players and young talents, also won the KNVB Cup (by a 5-0 win over PSV!), securing a domestic double. However, their European campaign was disappointing, as they were eliminated in the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Cup.
The former Dutch international Ronald de Boer played for Ajax in the period 1983-1991. The midfielder and forward was part of the Ajax youth in the first five years until 1988. In the first team, De Boer won five domestic league (Eredivisie) titles, one domestic (KNVB) cup titles and above all the 1994–1995 UEFA Champions League. In 1999, he joined FC Barcelona together with his brother Frank. After one season he moved to Rangers. Ronald ended his career at two clubs in Qatar (2004-2008).
