Manchester United’s period from 1992 to 1994 marked the return of the club to the top of English football under manager Alex Ferguson. Manchester United won the first Premier League title in the 1992–1993 season, ending a 26-year wait for the league championship. The following 1993–1994 season was even more successful, as United defended the league title and also won the FA Cup, defeating Chelsea 4–0 in the final to complete a domestic double. With key players such as Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs and Peter Schmeichel, this period established Manchester United as the dominant team in England during the 1990s.
