These years were mainly focused on the UEFA Nations League and UEFA Euro 2020, which was played in the summer of 2021 due to postponement. In the Nations League, Germany finished second in their group behind Spain and did not reach the finals, with a heavy 6–0 loss to Spain as a key result. At Euro 2020, managed by Joachim Löw in his final tournament, Germany reached the round of 16 after wins against Portugal and a draw with Hungary, but were eliminated by England at Wembley. The season marked the end of an era, as Löw stepped down after 15 years as head coach.
