Barcelona’s 1995–1997 period was a transitional but successful cup-focused era. In the 1995–1996 season, under Johan Cruyff, Barcelona finished third in La Liga and reached the Copa del Rey final but lost to Atlético Madrid, while also being eliminated in the UEFA Cup semi-finals. The following 1996–1997 season, with Bobby Robson as head coach, saw Barcelona finish second in La Liga behind Real Madrid, but they won the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and the Supercopa de España, with Ronaldo as the team’s top scorer. These two seasons marked the end of Cruyff’s “Dream Team” era and the start of Robson’s cup-focused success.
