England’s national team period from 1990 to 1992 covered a time of transition after a strong World Cup performance. In 1990, England reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Italy under manager Bobby Robson, losing to West Germany on penalties. After the tournament, Robson left and Graham Taylor became head coach. During 1991 and 1992, England struggled for consistency and failed to qualify for the UEFA European Football Championship in 1992 (Euro 1992) after finishing behind Sweden, Denmark and France in their qualifying group. This period marked the end of an era and the start of rebuilding for the national team.
