England national football team failed to qualify for the 1994 FIFA World Cup after finishing third in their qualifying group behind Norway and the Netherlands. Graham Taylor left as manager after the unsuccessful campaign and was replaced by Terry Venables in 1994. During the following year, England played mainly friendly matches while preparing for UEFA Euro 1996, which they would host.
