The 1990–1993 period was a mixed time for the England national football team. Under coach Bobby Robson, England reached the semi-finals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, losing to West Germany national football team on penalties. Graham Taylor later took over as coach, but England were eliminated in the group stage of UEFA Euro 1992 and failed to qualify for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Key players during this period included Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker and David Platt.
