The diamond pattern on the shirt pays tribute to the many great players Ajax has produced over the years. According to the club, the design is inspired by the “diamonds” of the past, present, and future—a nod to Ajax’s rich history of developing top talent. The slogan “Diamonds are forever” captures this legacy, and the shirt was unveiled in a special video featuring Jari Litmanen as a diamond trader, with a cameo from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
The 2023-24 season was a difficult one for Ajax, marked by instability and underperformance. The team struggled in the Eredivisie, falling far behind the title race, and their European campaign was also disappointing.
