Ajax played the 1991–1992 season in the Eredivisie and finished 2nd in the league under head coach Louis van Gaal. The club had major success in Europe by winning the UEFA Cup, defeating Torino over two legs in the final. Ajax went through the entire European campaign unbeaten, which was a rare achievement at the time. This season was an important step in the rebuilding of the team that would later dominate Dutch and European football in the mid-1990s.
