The 2023–2024 season was one of Ajax’s most disappointing in decades. The club began the campaign under new manager Maurice Steijn, but after a string of poor results, he was dismissed in October. Hedwiges Maduro briefly took over on an interim basis before John van ’t Schip was appointed to steady the ship. However, Ajax never fully recovered and finished outside the top spots in the Eredivisie, missing out on Champions League qualification and enduring early exits from both the KNVB Cup and European competition.
