Ajax played the 2013–2014 season under head coach Frank de Boer and continued their domestic dominance. Ajax won the Eredivisie title, securing a fourth consecutive league championship. In domestic cup competition, Ajax reached the KNVB Cup final but suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat against PEC Zwolle. In Europe, Ajax competed in the UEFA Champions League group stage, finished third behind Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, and dropped into the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Red Bull Salzburg in the round of 32. The season confirmed Ajax’s strong position in Dutch football, despite mixed results outside the league.
